CHAINSAW TRAINING MELBOURNE
This Chainsaw Training Course teaches you all you need to know about the safe operation and maintenance of chainsaws. Completing this course meets the national requirements for the accredited Unit of Competency (AHCMOM213).
Learn to operate hand-held chainsaws including how to safely cross-cut timber and keep a chainsaw in safe operational order including sharpening of chains, how to complete routine service and safety checks to prevent the risk of injury.

The courses include practical and theoretical training in Chainsaw operation. On successful completion of the course you will have the knowledge and skill to operate the equipment in a safe and competent manner and will obtain the following competency outcomes:
– Determine site location for work including work details and approvals
– Identify site hazards & assess risks
– Identify and confirm first aid & emergency personnel, equipments and procedures
– Perform routine checks & maintenance for chainsaw usage
– Identify, tag and report chainsaw faults & malfunctions
– Use personal protective equipment that complies with Australian Standards
– Safely cross-cut fallen timber using compression and tension cuts with a handheld chainsaw
– Select & use approriate tools for chainsaw maintenance
– Apply environmentally repsonsible workplace practices
– Cleaning & storage of chainsaws
– Follow relevant workplace procedures to safely operate a chainsaw

Our Chainsaw Training is conducted our main facility located in Ferntree Gully. During your training course you will have access to our simulated work areas and a range of chainsaws and maintenance tools. During your training you will be taught how to operate each equipment including pre-start checks, maintenance and many other exercises tailored to your ability.

We conduct our Chainsaw Training at our Ferntree Gullytraining centre located at 7 Hayward Road, Ferntree Gully, VIC.
A food truck visits Start Training’s Ferntree Gully Road facility every weekday (Monday to Friday) at 9.45am. This service offers a wide range of hot and cold food and snacks including sandwiches, pies, fruit, confectionery and drinks.
We have a student kitchen / cafe area with free fresh fruit, free fresh coffee and free biscuits. The kitchen area contains a large fridge, microwaves, toaster and a sandwich press that are free to be used by our students if they wish to bring their own food for the time they are with us.
We have vending machines located in our Ferntree Gully Road facility featuring a selection of drinks and snacks. The drinks vending machine serves Coca Cola, energy drinks and coffee milk amongst others and can accept coins, card (pay pass) and notes ($5 or $10 notes only). We also have a snack machine serving a variety of chips and confectionery which is coin operated only.
There are a number of shops and takeaways within a short distance of our Ferntree Gully facility including bakeries located at the Mountain Gate shopping centre, Red Rooster, On It Burgers, McDonalds, Subway and KFC. If you are unsure about their locations one of our friendly staff can direct you.
At our Sunshine West facility there is a cafe just 50 meters walk from our front door that sells a variety of fresh sandwiches, hot food and drinks at a very reasonable price. You are welcome to keep any food purchases on site within our kitchen facilities and make use of our fridges, kitechen benches and other applicances.
Generally our classes begin at 8.00am each day Monday through to Saturday. Some of our classes begin slightly earlier at 7.30am, you will be informed of your class start time via a booking confirmation and a confirmation SMS sent to you a few days prior to your class.
Yes, we offer ample breaks throughout the day. An initial break is provided at 9.45am at which time a food van visits our Ferntree Gully location. Lunch and other shorter regular breaks are provided throughout the day.
We provide all safety equipment necessary for your course including hi-vis vest and hard-hats where applicable. All you need to bring is a sturdy pair of shoes (no thongs please) and adequate clothing. Please note that during winter months the temperatures within our warehouse can be low, please come with sufficient warm clothing on cold weather days.
Yes, once you have been booked in you will receive an e-mail with a workbook and other materials attached. The workbook should be completed prior to attending to ensure maximum time available for practical training. A hardcopy of the workbook and training materials can be provided on request and mailed out to you with sufficient notice.
Yes, you must complete your workbook prior to attending our class. Failure to do so may result you being denied access to your course on the day and a re-booking fee will be applicable. This is to ensure that students get adequate practical training on the machines and that the class isn’t being held up by those who haven’t completed the workbook.
